Prototyping for Offshore Wind Energy Renewables Scotland (POWERS) is a fund open to Offshore Wind turbine manufacturers from Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. It offers funding to support the capital and operation costs associated with the full scale production (and not individual component parts) of next generation wind turbine prototypes in Scotland. The key principles for applicants are the extent to which they can demonstrate economic impact in Scotland as measured by GVA and jobs as a result of establishing Scottish manufacturing operations. Offers made under the fund will seek commitment from inward investors to establish European manufacturing operations in Scotland - following prototype development. Opportunity - National Renewables Infrastructure Fund

The National Renewables Infrastructure Fund (N-RIF) has been established to support the development of port and near-port manufacturing locations for offshore wind turbines and related developments including test and demonstration activity, with the overall aim of stimulating an offshore wind supply chain in Scotland. This fund is in addition to Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) and other funding that will be available for companies creating new jobs in this industry in Scotland. Scottish Enterprise (SE) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) will lead the allocation of funding and will follow the clear approach set out in National Renewables Infrastructure Plan (N-RIP).

Opportunity - EIC announces access to £29.2m funding

The Energy Innovation Centre has revealed access to £29.2m of funding for innovators and companies looking to bring new ideas for tomorrow’s energy industry to market. Available from February 2012, the funding can be accessed via the Energy Innovation Centre and investments will be selected by five of the UK’s leading electricity distribution companies Electricity North West, Northern Power Grid, ScottishPower Energy Networks, Scottish and Southern Energy and UK Power Networks. These major players are looking to implement new services and technologies to enhance the way power is transported, monitored and stored. The funding available originates from Ofgem’s Innovation Funding Incentive scheme and the £500m Low Carbon Networks (LCN) Fund. Denise Massey, Director of the Energy Innovation Centre said: “This is another huge step forward for innovators and businesses that need to accelerate their ideas to market. As part of this initiative we will continue to deliver a range of support services, including opportunities to test technologies on high and low voltage power networks and establish relationships with potential customers. “This is an opportunity for the UK to further develop the way energy is distributed whether this is a new or early stage idea or an existing technology from another industry which will improve the energy supply process. We are looking for products that will help manage demand, and encourage more efficient use of energy in the home and workplace.” The UK power industries operate power networks with a replacement value of £150bn and invest £1.5bn per annum on maintaining and growing their 500,000 miles of cable which deliver electricity to your home. The flows of energy will be completely different to what we’re used to which is single flow from a centralised generation to people’s homes, to now a more localised generation. Mark Mathieson, managing director of networks at Scottish and Southern Energy, discussed some of the issues surrounding constraints in the power networks. He said: “The low carbon agenda will change the way we buy and procure energy from the model we’re used to. Not a lot has changed since the 1930s but we as we move towards the likes of wind generation, electric cars, PV systems we’re looking at a more intermittent and complex mix of energy generation and use. The flows of energy will be completely different to what we’re used to and we need to manage the new constraints. Fault detection and resolution will also become increasingly complex. “Energy companies want to avoid digging up the UK’s footpaths to lay bigger cables to accommodate the increased demand so we’re turning to innovation to help us look at new ways of tackling this. Scheme to support Entrepreneurs and Innovators develop and demonstrate innovative energy efficiency, building and power generation technologies. DECC launched the 1st phase of the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund scheme on 23 August 2012. This is a competitive funding scheme to support the development and demonstration of innovative, new technologies, products and processes in the areas of: - Energy efficiency and building technologies - Power generation and storage The scheme seeks the best ideas, irrespective of source, in these areas from the public and private sector. However, the scheme particularly aims to assist small and medium sized enterprises, including start-ups, and those companies that are selected can receive additional funding for incubation support. This initial call is the first phase of the Entrepreneurs Fund. The second phase of the scheme building on the first phase is expected to be launched in early 2013 on an open call basis. The first phase of the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund has up to £16m available for funding and during the application process applicants will be expected to demonstrate a robust evidence based case for funding, that will include but not be limited to: -the potential impact of the innovation on 2020 and/or 2050 low carbon targets or security of supply -the size and nature of the business opportunity -the technical viability of their innovation and coherent development plan that will commercially progress -the innovation value for money proposition The 1st phase of the scheme will close on 31 Oct 2012. The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Technology Strategy Board are to invest up to £11.2m in technical feasibility studies; development and demonstration of component technologies; and knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP) to stimulate innovation in the UK offshore wind sector and to strengthen the supply chain. The deployment of wind farms off the coast of the UK will see the UK continuing to lead the global market over the coming years. However, the cost of energy from offshore wind remains relatively high and the UK supply chain captures relatively little value in current deployments. This competition aims to help the development of technologies that will minimise the cost of energy to the UK consumer while ensuring that the UK economy captures more benefit from increased supply to future projects. Development and demonstration Up to £7m is available for the third round of DECC and the Technology Strategy Board’s offshore wind component technologies development and demonstration scheme. Applications to this scheme should be made to DECC and should seek to develop and demonstrate components across the offshore wind system. Applications will be welcomed from single businesses or consortia, including those not currently established in the UK or those seeking to expand into the offshore wind sector. Successful projects are expected to attract between about 25% and 60% public funding, and may receive up to £4m funding per project. This element of the competition opens in early November and the deadline for applications is noon on 16 January 2013 Feasibility studies Up to £3m is available for technical feasibility studies lasting up to a year and applications should be made to the Technology Strategy Board. Projects must be led by a UK business and may be developed by a single company or be collaborative. They will attract up to 75% public funding of up to £100k for pre- industrial research, with total project sizes expected to be between £100k and £150k. The competition for feasibility studies opens on 5 November 2012. The deadline for registration is noon on 9 January 2013, and the deadline for applications is noon on 16 January 2013. The Technology Strategy Board and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) are to invest up to £1.2m to establish new Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) in the field of offshore renewable energy. This targeted call for KTPs aims to stimulate and support innovation in the offshore renewable energy supply chain. It is part of an £11.2m programme and is running in parallel with a £10m investment in developing the offshore wind supply chain by the Technology Strategy Board and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Up to £3m will be invested in feasibility studies to develop innovative early-stage technologies and up to £7m in development and demonstration of component technologies for offshore wind. This KTP call also follows the recent £10.5m Marine energy: Supporting array technologies competition (March 2012), which was co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board, Scottish Enterprise and NERC. While we welcome applications relating to power generation from offshore wind, wave, tidal stream and tidal range energy sources, there is an opportunity for KTP applicants to link their projects to feasibility or development and demonstration applications in the parallel offshore wind competition where appropriate, although it is not a requirement to do so. We welcome complementary applications, but organisations applying both to this targeted call and for feasibility or development and demonstration funding should ensure that their proposals can stand alone and are not dependent on both applications being successful. This call for KTPs will help businesses to integrate sustainable innovation into their organisations, and will provide new opportunities for open innovation and knowledge exchange across the sector. We aim to bring new innovation capacity and capability to UK businesses by promoting the commercialisation of knowledge, technology and expertise. We aim to establish a group of KTPs that will run together as a cohort, supported by a programme of networking between the partners. The cohort approach will encourage knowledge-sharing across projects, potentially giving the businesses involved access to knowledge and expertise held by a range of academic groups with different perspectives on the high-level challenges facing the sector. A Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Competition to develop and demonstrate innovative, pre-commercial energy storage technologies which can address grid-scale storage and balancing needs in the UK electricity network. DECC is seeking applications to develop and demonstrate innovative energy storage technologies which can address grid-scale storage and balancing needs in the UK electricity network in the run up to 2020 and beyond. Applications will be assessed against key criteria, including a wide range of technical and economic performance parameters, project management capability and likelihood of commercialisation. The competition is open to any type of energy storage technology which meets the competition scope and eligibility criteria. Contracts will be awarded on a competitive basis to successful bidders to develop and demonstrate pre-commercial energy storage technologies which offer value for money; where there is genuine innovation taking place and where there is a realistic chance of future deployment. A total budget of up to £17m is available for the competition. Deadline for bids to be received: 12pm on 13 December 2012 The competition will run in two phases, with Phase 1 contracts for system and project design studies expected to be awarded in February 2013. A grant funding programme for research, development and feasibility studies of grid-scale energy storage systems and their components. This innovation competition offers grant funding to support: component level research for storage technologies to improve particular components or materials within an energy storage system which could be deployed to meet grid-scale storage needs in the UK electricity network; or development and demonstration of technologies needed to enable deployment and integration of energy storage systems into the UK electricity network; or system level feasibility studies to investigate deployment issues and operational aspects of electricity storage systems, including integration of storage systems into the UK electricity network. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and grant funding will only be available on a joint funding basis - i.e. successful applicants will be required to secure a significant private sector funding contribution to the total eligible project costs. Grant awards for component research and development projects or feasibility studies are expected to be in the range £200k to £1m. The total budget for the competition is up to £3m. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are to invest jointly up to £1m to establish new Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) in the area of power electronics. We are looking to support a cohort of up to 12 KTPs UK-wide for this thematic KTP competition, with up to three of these coming from companies based in Wales. Power electronics is considered key to enabling a resilient energy system for a future UK energy mix which will include a larger percentage of renewables, connectivity to a European supergrid, community energy systems, and electric vehicle charging. This targeted call for KTPs aims to stimulate and support supply chain innovation in power electronics and the energy sector. It is part of a £5.4m programme and is running in parallel with a £4.4m Technology Strategy Board investment in power electronics. Typical annual project costs could be in the region of £60k with a third of this being contributed by the company, in the case of an SME. This targeted call will encourage knowledge-sharing across projects, and will facilitate effective links to the UK research base, including the developing EPSRC National Centre for Power Electronics. This will give the businesses involved access to knowledge and expertise held by a range of academic groups with different perspectives on the high-level challenges facing the industry. The aim is to stimulate innovation and develop UK supply chains between the power electronics and energy sectors. We see power electronics as key to enabling a resilient energy system for a future UK energy mix which will include a larger percentage of renewables, connectivity to a European supergrid, community energy systems and electric vehicle charging. The aim of this competition is to link the power electronics community across the supply chain to energy suppliers and original equipment manufacturers to encourage collaboration and innovation in response to current challenges. The competition has two strands: Strand 1 is a two-stage collaborativeR&D competition with up to £2.4m available for collaborative R&D projects. They must be collaborative and business-led and have end users as part of the project. Projects will focus mainly on industrial research, with total project costs ranging from £500k to £1m – although projects outside this range will be considered. Strand 2 is offering up to £2m for pre-industrial technical feasibility studies lasting up to12 months. This framework agreement would be used to procure high priority research to develop the methodologies and data sources used in the inventories. HHO Fuelsaver will manufacture and market HHO generators in Britain. We have a new design in testing which will solve the existing problems with current HHO generators and it is smaller and cheaper to produce. This new design complies with criteria for a patent and therefore the application should be granted. Background HHO generators produce hydrogen and oxygen gas on demand, which is fed into the air inlet manifold of a vehicle. This gives the vehicle greater power, reduces fuel consumption AND reduces CO2 emissions by typically 30%, and reduces harmful emissions. These claims are verified in substantive road tests. No hydrogen is stored. It is burnt immediately in the engine and only operates when the engine is running. HHO was developed in the USA by motor sport enthusiasts, more for it’s power boosting than for it’s fuel economy. It hasn’t yet become a best seller in the USA because gasoline prices are low and therefore it takes 3-4 times as long to recoup the cost of an HHO generator compared to the UK. The Market 33% of the 27 million UK cars do sufficient mileage to recoup the cost of our HHO generator in 6 months and thereafter save £1,100 p/a on fuel costs. The average UK Truck will recoup HHO cost in 3 months and thereafter save £5,000.00 per annum.

Cuycha is providing sustainable CCN technology for carbon dioxide emission reduction. CCN is only carbon capture technology that can make profit and is very beneficial. All other CCS technologies make losses. CCN technology main goal is to provide technology for CO2 emission reduction from emission source e.g. power plant. Process can reduce also other emissions e.g. sulphur and particles. Reduction efficiency is 40-90%. Cuycha technology can use water that is brack, acid mine drainage, river, plant coolant and process water and after CCN process it is potable cleanden of detritius, acidicity neutralized and chemically cleaned. Produced bicarbonate water can be used for watering to improve crop yield. Minerals that CCN technology uses is silicate minerals, feldspar e.g. anorthite and spodumene and tens of more. Mineral sources are quarries, maining waste and metalworks slag. CCN process produces valuable byproducts depending on mineral used e.g. aluminium compounds, lithium carbonate, calcium carbonate, quartz sand and rare earth metals.

The circular tank itself is 25m in diameter with a 17m diameter test zone where waves up to 0.7m and currents exceeding 0.8m/s can be created. At scales between one-tenth and one-fortieth, these equate to extreme conditions of up to 28m high waves and currents exceeding 12 knots. With the potential to introduce site-cpecific bathymetry too, we can can replicate sea conditions of anywhere around the UK and European mainland, as well as most of the rest of the world.

I am an Inventor and have invented novel ideas in energy generation and trasportation sector.the ideas are 1)Cryogenic atmosphere energy conversion About 10km above the earth surface the temperature of earth is about -66degree Celsius and that of the normal temperature at the ground is 15degree Celsius. There should be a difference of about 81degree Celsius . My idea is to utilizing the difference in temperature between higher altitude and ground to run a turbine to generate energy from first law of thermodynamics Look at the fig2/3 Here we are installing the turbine and vaporizer in a transparent thermal insulator chamber above 10km altitude hanging using airships . The thermal insulator chamber is maintained at 35 degree Celsius . Here we are heating the vaporizer above 10km by pumping hot air through a thermal insulator flexible hose using pump from the ground radiator . The working fluid ammonia which is in liquid form enters into the vaporizer and get vaporized this is fed to the turbine and the ammonia is rejected to the condenser out side the thermal insulator chamber where the temperature is -66degree Celsius .so the working fluid ammonia gets cooled and turns to liquid there and it is again fed into the vaporizer chamber using a pump .the cycle is repeated . .this is an adiabatic process . the turbine runs the generator and generates powerThis technology according to claim1 can be used to develop a hybrid engine for aero plane which is usually flying in 10 to 18km altitude zone 2)Capacitive charging of cars using RLC Series Circuit ABSTRACT Storage of electricity is the main concern for developing electric cars So there comes the importance of live charging of cars from road with out having any connection between road and car .my idea is to charge the electric cars using capacitive charging ei the plate under car and plate under the road is acting as a capacitor and road as a dielectric ei capacitor charging of electric cars from roads This method is the live charging of cars from road by a new idea using the principle of RLC series circuit where the plate under the car and the plate under the road is acting as a capacitor .the ground clearance ei the gap between the road and car is the dielectric ABtract 3)POTENTIAL ENERGY BY ADAPTING NATURE’S RAIN AND CLOUD TECHNOLOGY Here I am adapting the mother nature’s technology of creating rain to develop potential energy to drive a turbine and to generate electricity from it About 5km above earth surface the temperature is normally very low temperature .some liquids like acetaldehyde boils at 20degree Celsius . So production and consumption doesn’t take place simultaneously. so i have an idea to solve this challenge we know that 1000 of oil tankers are going to scrap or discarded every year .so we can use this oil tanker to store wind energy as a storage of energy when wind blows at night or no demand and use this at peak time .the oil tanker is already in sea so no need of installation cost we can use this oil tanker to store vanadium which is a biproduct of crude oil .vanadium is a good electrolyte and can be stored in this oiltanker to charge them like a battery during night and can be discharge them using peak demand .vanadium is abudant in nature and if we fill the oiil tanker it is a massive energy storage device and can be anchored near the wind farm .the old oilcompanies are desperatley looking to discard old oiltankers .we can use this oil tankers for this purpose with a little modification because even we neednot wanted to wash the ship .just put two electrodes in it advantages 1) this is a capacitive load .so it can used for power factor improvment in the grid since most of them are inductive loads 2)massive storage of energy using unwanted oiltankers with small nedd of modifications 3)no need of expensive land .the ship can be anchored near the wind farm 4)massive income can be generated by selling off peak energy in peaktime 5 ) boost invester confidence .because of elliminating the uncertanity in wind 6)new business model and new field . 7) no need of saftey concern .because it is anchored in sea 8 )efficiency= 75 t0 80% 9)quick response 10)>10000 cycles 9) proven solution .the university of new south wales in austalia is already manufacturing the vanadium storage for renewable energy By combing the old oil tanker and vanadium we can have an excellent storage solution because the only problem with vanadium battery is large space .a huge oil tanker got large space to store electricity for an entire farm and can be deployed near cosumer sites and cites 5)DYNAMIC cone OFFSHORE WIND CATCHER FISH and wind are same in sea .Both are dynamic .the fisherman goes to sea , change his place and casts the net where fish is .if his boat is anchored it in one place through the year he do not get any fish .so he is dynamic and cast his net where fish is . Same like wind and wind turbine. Wind blows where it likes .today’s turbines are inadequate to capture wind even if the wind blows 100meters away from the off shore turbine because it is stand still and fixed in sea. We are currently developing and trialling a unique system we have designed, that combines a PCM (phase change material ) energy storage device with an air-to-water heat pump, to be used primarily in the non-domestic built environment. The benefits we expect to see will be, significant reduction in time of use of the air conditioning system, reduction of heat input into a room at the start of a working day, reduced cost of heat input into a room as the system can use low-tariff night time energy to slowly discharge heat into a room, owners will be able to take advantage of RHI ( predicted ), low cost of removing heat via heat pump with the additional use of a dry air cooler, thus showing a very high system COP, smoothing out of energy curve throughout a working day.

The Navigator is a resource for the entire Low Carbon Energy RDD&D community.
